❏ umami// berlin restaurants
umami restaurant berlin prenzlauer berg |
thanks to my former flatmate i recently discovered „umami“, a restaurant offering homemade indochinese kitchen. umami is japanese and
means „pleasant savory taste“ which is also a quite good description for the
food you get served there. from summer rolls to wok-tossed calamari and
traditional 5-herbs bouillon, you’ll find there a great selection of fresh and
healthy dishes. check it out yourself!

❏ archive sale// vintage designer pieces
archive sale presented by NIGHTBOUTIQUE & Purwin & Radczun |
if you are a fan of high class and selected
vintage pieces by the big designers, then you definitely shouldn't miss the
archive sale presented by NIGHTBOUTIQUE
and Purwin & Radczun in the neighborhood of kreuzberg.
i have been there yesterday
and next to ready-to-wear they have an awesome selection of vintage pieces from
brands as ann demeulemeester, balenciaga, céline, chanel,
comme des garcons, hermès, prada, yves saint laurent and many more. prices are
really good (at least compared to original price tags for high fashion) however
sizes were often quite big (majority of shoes was a 41, clothes a 40). probably
for good, this saved me from getting bankrupt ;-).
doors are still open today from 12:00 to 7:00 pm
at tempelhofer ufer 32, 10963 berlin.

❏ 20% off at zara home// sale alert
20% discount zara home day |
as i am still in the process of arranging my apartment
(i must admit slightly delayed taking into account that i already moved into my
apartment in may…but what shall i say, summer in berlin doesn’t leave time for
things like this, and i am sure you will all agree, when going out almost every
night, who cares about the perfect home ;-) ???).
after finally having found the perfect sofa two weeks
ago (a post will follow in the next weeks), i thought it’s time for a suitable
side table. as an exception i knew from the beginning what i wanted: a round
table (or a set of two in different sizes) in metallic, matte grey or black,
with a glass top and most important an open, not a full circled, foot.
after having rejected to spend above 600€ on the designer version and
strolling unsuccessfully through a bunch of shops and flee markets…an email by the zara home online shop announcing a 20% discount today caught my attention. as you
can imagine i finally went for a beautiful coffee table set (see picture below), fulfilling all my requirements (ähm, yes, let’s say besides the color).

❏ camel love// monki winter coat
monki delivery |
just
in time with falling temperatures in Berlin this weekend, my new camel coat arrived
today. since I was already looking for a coat like this in the last seasons, I
am happy finally having found the perfect model at monki. with the oversized
shape the coat doesn’t tend to be too serious and "businesslike", the soft and
slouchy fabric as well as the extra button on the collar make the coat
comfortable and warm, and not to forget, it has exactly the right beige tone (not making me look pale and sick ;-)).
have a
cosy weekend!

❏ tel aviv// city guide
it’s
already some weeks ago that i went to israel. besides some trips to jerusalem
and the dead sea, most of the time i spend in the vibrant city of tel aviv. from
hanging out at the beach, strolling through foodmarkets to visiting museums, there
is a lot to discover and it’s definitely worth a visit. here is a small guide
with my favorite places.
with
an average temperature above 30 degrees, heading to the beach is a daily must.
my favorite spot was alma beach next to jaffa as you had a great view at the
old town of jaffa as well as of the skyline of modern tel aviv. not far from
there, you can find a great restaurant "goldman“ with a terrace directly
located at the beach with a lovely sea view and fresh typical israeli food like hummus, tabouleh, couscous...
jaffa, tel aviv beach, restaurant goldman |
my
favorite quarter was jaffa with its flea market, small and lovely decorated streets, a lot
of nice restaurants e.g. "ras el-hanout", small shops and the harbor. fortunately the beautiful and friendly "yafo creative guest house" (where i stayed) was also located in this area. it's a mixture of guest house and place for artists run by a group of creative israelis. i definitely can recommend it as probably one of the best places to stay in tel aviv.
jaffa, old city, flea market, ras el-hanout, yafo creative guest house |
other nice areas are white
city with it’s bauhaus buildings, the super cool fashion store "veist", "bar rothschild 12" and the delicious deli & bakery "delicatessen" (definitely go for the traditional shakshuka) in yehuda halevy street.
tel aviv, shakshuka@delicatessen, white city, rothschild boulevard |
other cool neighborhoods are neve tzedek and florentin, posher area with nice shops, coffees and a lot of restaurants e.g. "north abraxas" in lilienblum street.
beetroot carpaccio, salad, fresh fish, whole cauliflower, scoop of mousse au chocolat @ north abraxas |
if you
have time you definitely should have a look at the "museum of art" which has one
oft he best collections of modern art i have ever seen. when you are there, definitely
go for an audio guide as they give really nice and funny background
information.
museum of modern art tel aviv |
if you
have enough from the city, take a car and do some day trips e.g. to the dead
sea where you can float in the water without gravity (especially in the southern part, the landscape gets more an more amazing with thick white salt layers ).
for fans of hiking, go up to the rocket plateau of mazada where you have a stunning view of the hilly desert landscape.
dead sea, negev desert, mazada, israel |
and for sure jerusalem
with all its religious and historical sites is also a trip worth doing.
jerusalem, church of mary magdalene, western wall, al-aqsa mosque, church of the holy sepulcher, bazaar |

❏ caroline de maigret// how to be parisian
you always wanted to know how to behave like a real parisian?
then maybe you should read the book, recently launched by chanel muse caroline maigret and her friends, "how to be parisian: wherever you are".
i am still not sure to buy it, as my first thought was "oh, just another book launched by another it-girl"... however this video (sure not promotional ;-)) is so hilarious and just gave me such a big laugh that i am rethinking my decision. what do you think? have a look for yourself!

❏ david bowie exhibition// berlin
David Bowie exhibition// Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin © Duffy Archive & The David Bowie archive |
Today is the last chance
to visit the David Bowie exhibition in Martin-Gropius-Bau. It is a
retrospective of Bowie’s extraordinary career, especially exploring the sources
of his inspiration and the broad range of collaborations with various artists
from completely different fields. The exhibition consists of around 300
objects, most of them album artworks, handwritten lyrics & letters,
costumes, photography and music videos.
My favorite section was the last room, entirely dedicated to Bowie’s time in Berlin. Together with Iggy Pop he lived in Hauptstraße 155 in Berlin Schöneberg from 1976-1978. Probably inspired by the past as well as the vibrant subculture of the German capital in the 70's, at this time Bowie produced the so-called “Berlin Trilogy”, including the albums "Low", "Lodger" and "Heroes".

Make sure to get some
headphones before entering! This will not only help to get the full musical
experience (as the headphones automatically play the music belonging to the
shown object) but also to get not too distracted of the masses of visitors
around you.
